UNIVERSITY OF the Philippines (UP) clinched its fifth straight womens crown while Far Eastern University (FEU) crashed into the title column by topping the mens contest in UAAP Season 67 fencing competitions held over the weekend at the Blue Eagle gym.

Ma. Margarita Gamallo topped the epee and Dinah Remolacio dominated the foil in powering the Lady Maroons to the overall title, bagging it with a haul of three gold and as many silver medals. UP won the first three titles when fencing was still an exhibition sport in the league, and went unbeaten after that.

FEU, on the other hand, poured much of its might Saturday and virtually coasted Sunday to snatch its first UAAP fencing title, dethroning the heavily-favored UE team by clinching more silver medals in the process.

The Tamaraws earned two gold medals courtesy of Avelino Victorino in epee and and also bagged two silvers and two bronze medals. UE clinched two golds, but did not win any silver and brought home two bronze medals.

Rounding out the order of finish in womens fencing were Ateneo second with 1-2-3 gold-silver-bronze, UE third with 1-0-2, UST fourth with 1-0-1, FEU fifth with 0-1-0 and De La Salle sixth with 0-0-0.

In mens fencing, UP wound up third with 1-2-3, followed by UST 1-1-0, Ateneo 0-1-0 and De La Salle 0-0-0.
